ABOUT THE FOUNDER

Carol Costa-Smith

I began working with senior and disabled Californians in 1997 when I became licensed to sell long-term care insurance.  I soon learned that many of those who really wanted the coverage and were willing to pay the high cost of the coverage, already had health conditions that disqualified them from being insured.

I knew there had to be a solution for those who did not qualify, short of losing all they had worked for.  I learned about repositioning assets using annuities that complied with Medi-Cal guidelines.  In 2001 I co-ventured a corporation that helped hundreds qualify for Medi-Cal.

The company did great as long as we were selling a lot of annuities.  Unfortunately, annuities were not always the best solution for my clients.  So I did NOT not sell a lot of annuities.

Our company was not doing well.  To continue the work that was so needed, we had only two choices:

1.Sell lots of annuities, or

2.Start a non-profit and continue to treat my clients well.

In 2003, we incorporated a new company and applied for non-profit status.  After one and a half years with no decision from the IRS, I closed down our office.

I kept the promise to my clients that I would continue to take care of them.  I moved my office to my home; now located in that room we built for our pool table.

In June 2005, I incorporated again, but this time on my own and received non-profit status after one year, in June 2006.  We currently have clients in 14 counties, and we still maintain 100% Medi-Cal qualification success.
